Fire Service Memorabilia at Highlands End Holiday Park

The Bar and Restaurant at Highlands End has probably one of the largest private displays of Fire Service Memorabilia in the Country, this is mainly down to Martin Cox who is a Director of West Dorset Leisure Holidays and has a keen interest in the Fire Service after being a Firefighter with Dorchester and Bridport stations for over 30 years. The collection includes Cap Badges, Helmets, Models, Pictures and Fire Service Equipment - it even includes a 1936 Leyland Fire Engine and a 1902 Merryweather Steam Fire Engine they can both be viewed from the bar which can be easily seen.

The 1936 Leyland was purchased by Weymouth and Melcombe Regis Borough Council in 1936 and after being transferred to Dorset Fire Brigade she served the town of Weymouth until 1963 when she was moved to Bridport Station. The Brigade sold the Leyland in 1968. After being in private ownership in the North of England she returned to Highlands End and Bridport during 1985. Following a complete refurbishment by Park Staff she has been on display in the Bar since 1991.
